From Purdue: A YOUTUBE VIDEO Video and audio sources need to be documented using the same basic guidelines for citing print sources in MLA style. Include as much descriptive information as necessary to help readers understand the type and nature of the source you are citing. If the author’s name is the same as the uploader, only cite the author once. If the author is different from the uploader, cite the author’s name before the title. McGonigal, Jane. “Gaming and Productivity.” YouTube, uploaded by Big Think, 3 July 2012, www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkdzy9bWW3E. “8 Hot Dog Gadgets put to the Test.” YouTube, uploaded by Crazy Russian Hacker, 6 June 2016, www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBlpjSEtELs. ^^In the first example, they list the author's name because in this video, the "author" is different from the uploader. Use your discretion and personal research to make decisions like that. Besides that variation, it goes like this: Author (period) "Title in Quotes" (period) YouTube in Italics (comma) uploaded by Uploader (comma) date Day# - Written Month -- Year (comma) URL (period)
Here's a link to some reasonably official guidelines on citing forms of social media like TikTok, Twitter (Purdue has the same tweet guidelines), Instagram, Facebook, Blogs like Reddit etc.
Here's a link to the CalArts Library homepage. Definitely use this resource for access to scholarly articles and sources for your research papers
Here's a link to Google Scholar, a service for finding scholarly articles across the entire web. Sometimes the articles are freely available, but they're mostly not. I use it to find what's available and then search that title in the CalArts Library website, whose search engine isn't quite as discursive.
